Nick & Susanna’s Elegant Winter Wedding at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort

Nick & Susanna

As a Golden, BC wedding photographer and videographer, I’ve captured love stories in every season, but there’s something extra special about a winter wedding in the mountains. Nick and Susanna’s January celebration at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort was nothing short of breathtaking—a perfect mix of elegance, energy, and heartfelt fun.

A Snowy Fairytale on Top of the World

Late January might not be the first month that comes to mind for tying the knot, but for Nick and Susanna, it was magic. With snow-covered peaks and soft clouds dancing across the sky, the day carried that peaceful, moody winter energy that makes the mountains feel alive. Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, nestled above Golden, British Columbia, set the stage for this black-tie affair, with guests traveling from Australia, Singapore, and across Canada to celebrate the couple.

Dressed to the Nines, Partying Like Legends

This was no ordinary winter wedding. Susanna and Nick asked their guests to go all in—and they did. Think furs, sparkles, tuxedos, heels, and bold lipstick—pure alpine glamour. The vibe was high-style meets high-altitude, and the energy was infectious from start to finish.

Their little boy, Harvey, was a darling highlight of the day, stealing hearts during the ceremony and bringing an extra layer of sweetness to the celebration. Even though he didn’t stay for the late-night dancing, he was part of every meaningful moment early on.

Ceremony in the Sunset Glow

Their ceremony took place at the stunning Eagle’s Eye Restaurant, reached via gondola ride to the top of the mountain. With panoramic views of the Canadian Rockies, Selkirk, and Purcell ranges, and a sunset that lit up the sky in warm pinks and golds, it was a scene straight out of a dream.

The ceremony was intimate and simple, with just the couple and their officiant exchanging vows—no frills, just pure emotion. And as the sun dipped behind the peaks, Nick and Susanna shared one of the most picture-perfect "I dos" I’ve ever seen.

Conga Lines and Heartfelt Speeches

From the moment they made their grand entrance (yes, with a full-on conga line!), the reception was one for the books. Their dear friend Mark Travers played solo guitar, but you’d think there was a full band—it was that powerful. Guests danced non-stop, the speeches were filled with love, and the stories told throughout the evening revealed just how deeply Nick and Susanna are loved by their people.

Every detail of the night—from their heartfelt toasts to each other, to the surprise dance floor energy—reflected who they are: warm, welcoming, adventurous, and so full of life.

Capturing a Once-in-a-Lifetime Celebration

Nick and Susanna wanted their wedding photos and film to capture beauty, love, and fun—and their day delivered all three in spades. When they look back ten years from now, I hope they see what we all saw that day: two people completely smitten, surrounded by the people they love, in one of the most beautiful places on earth.

If you're dreaming of a winter wedding in Golden, BC, or considering getting married at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, let Nick and Susanna’s day be your inspiration. A snowy mountaintop ceremony, cozy yet glamorous vibes, and an epic party? Count me in every time.
